Beacon Hill 2 November 2023

It was one of the happiest days that was filled with a lot of laughter.  We had meandered down the trail from the office and the showstopper was Leucadendron spissifolium subsp. oribinum which is a Near Threatened South African endemic.  What a show it had put on.  The grass land was a mass of butter yellow.  Gail, Tracy and Anne got stuck into a crevice of a rock taking turns to remove an invasive tree that had secretly been growing there for years. We had lunch and fell about laughing as Tracy had us in hysterics.

The weather was so good to us that we decided that we didn't want the day to end and drove to Panpak and went botanising further into the reserve before heading home.

The South African endemics that we saw was Kniphofia coddiana, Disa sagittalis, Helichrysum ruderale, Aspalathus chortophila, Delosperma subpetiolatum, Caesia contorta and the endangered Eriosema umtamvunense.

The orchids of the day were Disa versicolor, Disa stachyoides, Cyrtorchis arcuata subsp. arcuata, Satyrium longicauda var. longicauda, Disa sagittalis and Polystachya pubescens.
